kayak access near Folly Beach

I make several trips a year from Tennessee to Folly Beach. I want to bring the kayak on the next visit in September. Other than the boat ramp at Center St, are there any other public access points in and around Folly Beach? Is the access at Mosquito Beach Rd (off Sol Lagare) public or private?

Bowens Is. may let you launch</font id=“blue”>

Bowens is $2 if he feels like charging you.

Not sure about mosquito beach

you can go to the end of Sol Legare and launch into the Stono

There is nothing - absolutely nothing- half so much worth doing as simply messing about in boats. Kenneth Grahame

Kayak launching:

Folly River has ramp at bridge, also a small ramp at Sunset Key Marina (ask at dock office), and a ramp at Mariner’s Cay marina on north side of Folly River bridge ( on the right, at security gate just ask for marina store on speaker to let you through).

Folly Creek has 3 sites: can launch at Crosby’s for nominal fee I believe, can launch at Bowen’s Island restaurant for $2.00 if Mr. Barber is around to collect, and can launch at Mosquito Beach IF the tide is up (I have parking doubts there).

Stono River/Sol Legare- free public ramp with parking. You can head downriver, turn up Green Creek, and end up back in King’s Flats- same as Mosquito Beach (see Google Earth or Wikimapia).

Enjoy- it’s a great kayaking area.

Thanks for the tips. Looking forward to my next trip.

Shem Creek is always full of fish, including some tarpon, but I “think” you might get a Pina Colada poured on your head there. It’s close enuf to Folly for me!
