So towards the end of June I will be down in the Keys and plan to do a good bit of fishing around the Long Key Viaduct and was wondering if I could get any advice on potential setups or bait to use to catch 6-7’ sharks. What size and strength leader to use, what size rod, etc???
On a side note, I am a bit concerned that fishing in general around the bridge that I may encounter some larger sharks such as these:

So any advice on what to do if you get hooked up by a big shark would also be appreciated

Just have something readily available so you can cut your line if you are getting spooled. The last sizable shark I caught from a kayak (about a 4 ft. bonnethead) pulled me around for a while. When it got close to the kayak, I started wondering “What now?”. I didn’t want it in the kayak with me, and I didn’t want to kill it with a billy club. Luckily as I was reaching for my line cutters, it let loose of the hook. Never was really hooked, just clamped down and wouldn’t let go. Here is a video I took: https://youtu.be/y84dBKLPiKE
