kayak fishing

just moved into the goose creek area. really interested in kayak fishing looking to buy one soon. any suggestions on one to buy? looking at a ride 135. also how often do you guys kayak fish and is anyone willing to hook up and show me around once im in a kayak?

Lots of good yak choices available. The Ride 135 is hard to beat in it’s price range. The Kayak festival is coming up at James Island County Park on April 17-19. That’s your best opportunity to see and paddle a wide range of yaks. Keep your eyes on Craigslist for good used yaks pop up pretty regularly.

Jordanonayak and I fish pretty much every Saturday. We’ve been on the Stono mostly since mid summer '08. You’re welcome to gve me a shout. Most others on here and sckayakfishing.com are open to meeting / fishing with new people.

I’m thinking of getting my own as well this summer. Nothing like getting off of work early, and just paddling around for a bit watching the sun drop

PETA would take offense to that…

There are quite a few of us that fish out of Bushy Park as well which is close to GC.

I’m a James Island boy myself but when I get my yak this summer, I wouldn’t mind meetin up with some of the Bushy Park crew. I’ve heard good things about that area

Great place to fish if you ignore the DAM BIG gator. Every time I go there I see some moron crabber tossing pieces of chicken to it. I launch and it follows me around when I fish. It gives me the willies.

Cutmullet has a couple good stories about gators that won’t yield the right-of-way. I have seen quite a few good size ones, and many more smaller ones. No real problem, except for one ~7 footer that decided I hung around a bit too long. It turned off the grass and made a bee-line towards me with its back and tail raised. I am sure it was for show only, but I did not stick around to find out.

I really enjoy kayaking the edisto river! Just be sure to check first…last time I was there the water was only a foot deep.
