kayak gigging with a trolling motor

I have been at a loss for where to wade gig off my kayak around here. But I got a breath of fresh air by hooking my trolling motor to my kayak(Don’t knock it to you try it). Man it sure was nice to sit back and enjoy the view and a beverage. No longer am I bound to that one area. Dirty water, cruise on. Oh I want to check that out across the way, cruise on over. Oyster bank and big drop off, sit in the kayak a legs a drift and motor to the next cluster. Life was good, water was clear, and wind was minimal. I counted that as a good night. I gigged two flounder. More would have been nice, but I cant complain after such a relaxing time.

I was thinking about ordering the motor mount for my malibu in the future. I was looking at a little sevylor 18lb thrust motor for $85. A decent sized sealed 12 volt would probably get me a couple of miles. I might invest in it in the future.

Don’t get stopped by Mr Green Jeans. Trolling motor + kayak = powerboat. Navigation lights and registration numbers needed

Also never let a trolling motor write a check your body can’t cash

Haha, thanks for the advice. I am already dreading the day I have to paddle that beast back. Im making sure to go out where the tide will be working with me on the way back. Also plugged my back scupper holes with pool noodle foam. Worked really well. the weight in the back had a little water in it.

There is a lot to be said about doing it yourself
But there is nothing like one of our Bass Yak systems made to fit your kayak
Out over 150 times now ? never had to paddle back once

I even tow customers when they get tired

I’ve got an extra mount for my eXtreme that might fit your Stealth. Just depends if the mounts match up. Pm me next week if your interested.

You can get a Minn-Kota 30lb for $99 on Amazon, and you get Minn-Kota reliability. Cutting the shaft shorter is fairly straightforward.
