I am thinking about getting a Kayak, but not sure what would be best (sit in or sit on top style). I want something stable, that I will not feel like I am going to fall out of everytime I move around. I will mostly fish out of it in the creeks at Murrels Inlet and the creeks & a small lake back home (do not plan on getting in any rough water). Any suggestions?
I saw this one on sale at Dick’s.

I’ve spent plenty of time in both SINKs and SOTs. My preference when I’m not planning to paddle miles and miles and miles is a SOT. I really like the ability to move about, climb on and off easily, and especially to sit side saddle and dangle my feet in the water.
I spend nearly all my Time on a Wilderness Systems Tarpon and I take my clients out on the Ride 135. The tarpon is faster, the Ride more stable. You learn pretty quickly about where you can reach and lean without falling over. If oyu get a chance, then either head to a demo day or try borrowing or renting a couple of different yaks before you buy.
The yak from Dicks is the Little Tykes Cozy Coupe of kayaks. You could use the one from Dicks, but it wouldn’t be as enjoyable. It doesn’t paddle great, it’s not fast, it doesn’t track that woll, but is does have pretty good stability.
I think you’d be better off searching Craigslist or the classifieds on kayak fishing forums for a better quality used boat.
