Hi all,
I’m new to kayak fishing and looking for a place to launch into the Wando off 41 near where I live. I know I could drive up to Paradise Landing, but it would be nice if I could sneak in somewhere closer to home.

There is a ramp behind the convenience store across the street from Carolina Boatyard there on 41. My understanding is that is a members only ramp but some folks have indicated that they have launched yaks from there. Hopefully someone will come along with the skinny on that ramp. I’m personally not aware of any other sites in that area.

The property/private boat ramp behind that gas station is definitely not open to public. The owner will have your vehicle towed if you aren’t supposed to be in there. Also, that gas station is not there anymore, it is just flat ground. There used to be a spot on 41 that you could get away with using on the opposite side of the Wando to the right, but they have barricaded that off due to construction preps for the new flyover bridge going in. You may be out of luck on launch sites on 41. Paradise is a great launch site for yaks and offers a great variety of fishing.

I was pretty sure there wasn’t anything near there, since I drive past all that pretty much every day. I just wanted to check to see if I was missing something. I’ll have to check out Paradise… looks like it’s pretty much the closest to me. i’ve got little kids and can’t really afford to get away for a whole day :).
