kayak launch out of sullivans island

hey gents,

I’ll be fishing in Sullivan’s island with some friends, and wondering where the best put ins are. I think I read about deweys island as a good spot, though timing the tide seemed to be premium if you didn’t want to mudslog!

Any advice?

tarpon 120 boat.

Thanks Tomdabomb

Sullivan’s Island and Dewees aren’t really that close to each other by kayak. There are a handful of holes to put in, station 26 comes to mind first. I think you might want to consult a map before you start your paddle though. That route is right along the ICW and you’ll have some very large company going pretty fast.

You might consider leaving from Morgan Creek Marina on IOP and paddling from there. You might have to pay a fee but you’ll cut your paddling distance by more than half.

thanks surf or fish! I’ll check them out. Tight Lines!

You want to fish Sullivan’s or Dewees? Seems like you have them reversed.

First, Most, Biggest

hey folks - let me clarify. I’ll be stay in Sullivan’s island, but was thinking about fishing Copahee sound and Dewees area. Station 26 looks like close to where I’ll be staying, and looks like fishable water out of the put in and similar on the other side of the IW. If I get to Dewees, looks like gadsdenville is closest, but have to watch the tide? Also, how much of the Copahee sound is left at low tide - does it make sense to kind of fish out with the tide if I come in through the IOP marina, for example? I was thinking better to fish with the rising tide.

tomdabomb…Copahee Sound does have a launch site.

If you do fish Copahee launch from the Gadsdenville Public Boat Landing the paddle to Dewees Island will be shorter than from the IOP Marina.
good fishing out there and in the ICW. Yes it would be best if you could fish an out going tide and then catch the incoming tide back. Yes it does get shallow in the sound. If you look on Google maps if you stay out to long you can get back by the deeper channel to the right and then when you get back towards channel to the landing you can walk back in there it is a hard bottom. If you do launch at Sta. 26 that is a good spot you can either go out the the ICW and fish there or around the bridge or any of the surrounding area or you can stay in the creeks and out to Breach Inlet area be careful around Breach Inlet the current can get really strong in that area. Look at Google maps it will help. Tight Lines! :sunglasses:

G 2 M H - thanks for the post.

thinking about fishing out of gadsdenville 10/28, to catch the rising tide and then fish as it goes out, maybe 7-1, with high tide @10am. thanks for the tip on hard bottom if you overstay your welcome.

station 26 looks good too - assume the parking okay at the launch (ie no issues at high tide for the car  )?

I fish a lot of paddletails on 1/8 or 1/4 oz jigs, and I’ve read Johnson weedless spoons are effective - I like them, but haven’t had much luck with them. And wondering about topwaters at dawn time, like zara spook jr and mirrolures.

getting pretty excited about being on the water!

Uh, yes. High tide if its bigger than a 5.7 or so, there’s water on the road. Plenty of times that road is covered up. If you are unsure, park up off of the pavement and walk back to the ramp. Big flood, don’t do it.

X2 with what 23Sailfish said, Sta 26 I do better on the falling tide. So there I wait till about an hour after high to launch and then get back in at least an hour before the high tide on a really big tide 6.5 or bigger. Your paddle tails will work in both places I don’t use spoons but I have heard they work. Top water will also work at both early before the sun comes up and just as it is getting up.

thanks g2mh and 23sailfish. looks like tides will be a little higher than 5.7, so I’ll watch out. hoping all this rain turns on the fish as it clears (vs turning off!).

I borrowed a cast net, which should be entertaining! my form is great on the lawn - we’ll see on the water, haha!

Fish the rear of IOP docks at high between the Connector and Breach Inlet with a float and live bait.

Also fish the docks from Breach to south…at the grass…

Caught some nice trout on the opposite side of the creek also hard up to the grass, hard up, 6 inches…

Best of luck…
