Kayak launch sites?

Anyone ever launch from the swim beach at the park, or is it even allowed?

Thinking it would be nice to grab a few baits from Lake World after work sometime and throw the yak in and drift some rigs behind while looking for topwater schoolin near Jakes. Since it is right there at the bait shop it would be fast to get in the water and close to some protected coves. Don’t want to have to fight the boats at the ramp, and Jakes is another option, but pretty expensive. Plus it seems sketchy every time I come back at dusk there.

Any other locations you know of?

Interested as well. I just picked up my in law’s yak and looking forward to schooling season. I too have thought about pulling some freelines while looking for schools to pop up.

Its a pretty long 2 seater so I will prob be looking for tag alongs if my partner cant go.

I believe the beach area will be closing soon, but I don’t think they would let you launch from there anyway. The only other spots I know are the normal places to launch boats.

If they ever slow down the Saluda enough to make it fishable in a kayak again, lets do a float trip down to Gardendale and catch some river fish. Me and Chip talked about it a week or 2 ago, but the water flow hasn’t let up since.

Sounds like a plan. Lets go Friday evening. I dont know where to look for waterflow but let me know and I will bring the yak to work.

I went by James Metts’ landing on Sunday afternoon, while out on my motorcycle, and the river is still moving pretty fast. The kayakers I saw seemed to be working a little harder to paddle upstream. I wouldn’t mind taking my canoe, once the flow slows down. It’s a 16’ so I’ll be looking for someone to go along too!

Looks like the flow is tapering down. By this weekend it might not be too bad. If we don’t get any more monsoons, the following weekend should be perfect. I think I might try to go out of Saluda Shoals Saturday morning and paddle up to the dam and see how that looks from the back side and then drift down stream to Gardendale landing.

The more I think about it Hilton might be the best place. It’s free, nice bank to launch yaks, very quite and the cove is protected. Plus there are lots of little coves and places to get to quickly by paddle without having to hit the open water. I just hope Anglers has bait though.

Anglers South closed up the tackle shop last week. (not sure about the bar).
I know they were trying to sell for a while and I guess they gave up.
However, the gas station at the corner of 76 and Wessinger started selling herring. I haven’t bought from them so I don’t know about price or quality but as of now that’s the only place to get live herring close to Hilton.
