I will be coming up from James Island to the Garden City area the week of May 23rd. I’m looking for a few places to launch my kayak. Any recommendations? Also willing to meet up to fish with anyone else in the area.
In Murrells Inlet: Best place is the shell recycle center on the S end of the inlet. It’s run by the state park. Should be on Google Earth. One thing: if the predicted high is over 4.5’ you need to be careful about leaving your vehicle and if it’s 5’+ you will not be able to get in there to put in. And don’t leave anything nice in the car/truck that someone would want to take, I haven’t heard lately but over the years theft has been a problem down there.
Other good place is Morse Park. High water is no problem there but low water is, it is pluff mud city and that creek goes dry and you can’t get in or out. I use +/- 2’ of water as a rule of thumb for access there.
On the N end or Murrells is Stanley Drive. Couple of parking spots along the road where it ends at the water, with a fair impersonation of a boat ramp.
If you try to use the main public ramp, chances are you will really be in the way. I use it for my boat, but would never put the yak in there.
Pawleys island is good place too.
Does anyone know if it is possible to launch across from Sara J’s or along the walk-way heading into Garden City?
Short of a private residence or landing, the end of Stanley Drive is best for that end. IMO.
