Kayak on back of a camper?

I just purchased a camper. It has a ladder on back of the camper that lets you climb to the roof. My question is does some one make a rack that would let you carry a kayak on this ladder rack?

Has anyone done this before?

I have not measured the height of the camper but I would guess that it is 12 ft from the roof to the ground.

You know, I hear camper and think coleman pop-up. You must be talking about one of those ridiculous tour bus size motor homes?

12’ huh? and your trying to get the kayak up the ladder on top of the roof? good luck with that. If you are towing another vehicle, like say an h2 or something, I would just use a sports rack on that for the kayaks.

It is a fifth wheel camper.

oh my bad skiff. i didnt even know what a fifth wheel camper was til i looked it up. maybe you can rig up a roof rack on your truck? still not easy to get it up/down though… perhaps worth a post on kayakfishingstuff.com

What type of truck are you pulling it with? I can get you the cost for a Thule roof top system for the truck if you would like.

Go Buckeyes!!! No, Seriously, GO!!!

not much room for a truck rack with a fifth wheel.

My pops puts a small yak vertically on the back of his 5th wheel. Not sure if it is a commercial type rack or just something he rigged up.

I have a 2006 chev. crew cab.
I do not own a kayak yet. I have a 19 Carolina Skiff that I would have to let my wife tow down. I was just thinking that a kayak would be more practical. Still not sure that I want to purchase a kayak but thought that if I could put a rack on the camper that would be nice.
Thanks

Cutmullet,
If you could ask you dad how he is mounting it to the ladder I would appreciate it.

Google thuleracks 897 hullavator ... if the link doesn't work

It may work for you

just talked to him… 45minutes later[:0]… says he tied the boat to the ladder rack one time and it was a real pain. He ordered a truck rack that supports the front of his boat (14ft), from the front bumper of his truck (www.prolineracks). ; back of boat goes over cab.
Height is a problem with anything but short yaks on back of camper.
good luck

I can see how the ladder rack could be a pain in a butt.
Thanks for the tip.
