kayak repair ?

hey ya’ll i’m new to the site so hi. i have a ? about repairing a yak. i haven’t seen it yet so i don’t have much info on it, but the guy that i might be getting it from says the top half needs to be glued down in a couple of places. my question is what is the best way to make the repair? i spoke to a guy at work who kayaks and he said to basically plastic weld it in those places. it that a good way to fix it or is there a better way to do it. i was thinking maybe epoxy the seam and then clamping it but i don’t know if the epoxy would melt the thing. just wanting an opinion. i’m trading some tail lights for it so it’s not like i’m spending anything for it. thanks in advance for any suggestions ya’ll might have.

“the top half needs to be glued down in a couple of places”

That would lead me to think that it’s a fiberglass kayak that is coming apart at the deck where it is put together, not a polyethelene one piece kayak. If it’s fiberglass you can “fiberglass” it back together at the seam where it’s coming apart.
If it’s a polythelene plastic kayak epoxy or glue will not stick to it that well at all, best bet is to plastic weld it back together or if that’s not an option one can flame treat the plastic area to be repaired (NOT to heat it, but to oxidize the surface)then use 100% silicone sealer and rivet/bolt/screw a patch or strip of plastic over the damaged area.
