You’ve got to pick your days and pick your launch spots. I earned my turtle sticker in August at Nags Head. Glad I didn’ttake that kind of a beating.

guy was pretty much an idiot from the get-go! Ive paddled out through the surf in my sit-on and made it…surfed back in and made it sometimes. But never took anything with me other than a paddle and pfd. One tip though…dont try it with a sit-in! A few gallons of water in the bottom of a sit-in and it becomes something like a log rolling test. The surf he was trying to get through was a lot like Edisto at high tide on some days…Ive seen many folks get their arse busted just trying to wade out in that stuff.

Been there before. He should have dragged his yak out past the break then climbed in. It is tough to try to bust through the wash as it is crashing on top of you. Had this type on condition in NC recently and had to pass on night time bait deployment until the morning. (But then a WS Ride 135 is not the best choice for launching in the surf.) Like beerbuzz said I’ve also seen it on Edisto as well but have not had too much problems getting through the surf in SC.
