Kayaker "Must Haves"

Okay, with Christmas coming I have begun thinking about some things I would like for Christmas. I would like some input from all you yakkers as to what you think are “must haves” for a new kayaker. Anything from equipment, accessories to cool/cold weather clothing. I really want some good waterproof gloves, quality underwear (tops/bottoms) and some waterproof/windproof clothing. Also any cool stuff you can’t live without.

Thanks, bring it on.

You do realize that’s the upcoming article for the December Coastal Angler Magazine.
I’m putting together a wish list with goodies in nearly every price point.

Cool beans, I’ll have to get my hands on that edition. Don’t get it up here in Cola but I’ll look for it when I am down there.

I’ll put a link up on the Kayak Fish SC FB page when it comes out.

If you plan on kayaking in the winter, definitely look at foul weather gear. Sailing gear is usually the stuff, like gill spray tops and bibs. Look up charleston yachting on google, great service with great deals if you want to make the trip to north charleston

Neoprene gloves, dry bag, neoprene waders, and a good jacket. I’ve got a brand new 40 liter dry bag if you’re looking.

fireboots (I got them from my dad’s friend) are great. It’s probably hard to find those so just get insulated rubber boots, frog togs at dicks (sporting goods!) and a ski mask to keep face warm! Gloves to would help.

Well, figured a paddle would be a must have… Till I saw Cappin Daves latest product. Guess a paddle isn’t a must have.

Anchor trolley and Stake out pole, good knife, poly-pro long johns, a good headlamp/other light, Crate Pak, Dry/Splash Wear, Neoprene Booties or socks, Boga Grip,… I could do this for days!

And for the Ping Pong Paddles, no joke. Check out Backwater Paddle Company. I won one at a raffle a few years ago, and it is great up in trees, around docks and pilings, or just in real shallow water with spooky fish. I could see it being the schitt down in Florida mangrove channels.

Thanks Dolphin.

The ping pong paddles sound like they’d make a good back-up emergency paddle(s) too.

A day with a yak fishing guide.

If you’re lucky enough to be fishing, you’re lucky enough.

Dfreedom,
You might try using a Stick It Anchor pin. They make it in 5.5, 7, or 8 foot sizes. They are fiberglass and are great for an achor. They can be attached to the kayak and simply shoved in the mud when ready to stop. They have been a great seller for us!! We also have Ladies Night this Friday(Dec 2 from 6-8pm) where your wife/girlfriend can come in and get you one on sale!!
