I used to have a canoe and we fished the Kiawah River a lot. I’d either put in at the bridge or at Mingo Point. We’d fish oyster beds, and grass line, etc. The best place was down the river just before you get to Beach Walker Park parking area, there is a large sand bar. We’d float down there on the out going and get out and catch bait, maybe crab with some hand lines and fish. On the channel side there was hard bottom in some areas and I used to catch a lot of trout there. Up above the sand bar there were oyster rakes and bottom as well. I’ve caught some big reds and some of the biggest flounder I ever caught there. Also if you go up the river from the bridge, there is a huge mud flat will big oyster beds all over. I always wanted to try that area, but never did.
