I bought my son (14) a kayak last year and he has really enjoyed it the few times he has been able to go out. He does complain about me making him wear a PFD however but, that is my rule. Can any of you yakers recommend a comfortable PFD that is not super expensive?
DFreedom, I’m sure I have some Extrasport paddling lifejackets in my storage unit. I’m in the process of clearing it out this week and more then happy to throw one his way. I gave a lot of them away to the “Save The Light” auction last year and to Heroes On the Water but pretty sure I have a few left still.

Take a look at the inflatable PFD’s. They tend to be cooler in the summer and a lot more comfortable to wear. Always felt if it was not as bulky and more comfortable you would be more likly to wear it.
I purchased a new ExtraSport Sturgeon for 75 bucks off of the internet. It was pretty comfortable and had a ton of space for small tackle boxes and tools. If you can pick up an ExtraSport for a good price, I would do it.
