I have had my Ocean Kayak for a couple of years now and haven’t used it as much as I should. Most of my seat time has been on freshwater lakes in the upstate. I live in Goose Creek and would like to start splashing the yak on the weekends from time to time. Not crazy about the gators at Bushy Park, but would like to spend some time in the rivers. Is there a group that kayaks on weekends and where do they go, put in, etc?
Thanks,
Sammie
I dont kayak but where I work (kiawah) there are a ton of small creeks out there and I’m sure theres fish in em. I think you could put in in the county park out there, Beachwalker I think is the name.
New and don’t know what to do
sammie, I know sea kayak carolina has kayak groups that go out, I went in there before I purchased mine … I am having trouble finding creeks and playing the tide just right when i do …
Lots of kayakers around Folly. If you’re willing to drive this way let me know and I’ll send you more info.
stick,
Can you put in at the creek just before you get to Folly, the one I am talking about is the one that the Anchor Line(think that is what it was called, shame it shut down, best fried seafood in town) restaurant was on?
That’s Oak Creek. They don’t let you launch at the restaurant. You could park across bridge and drag yak to other side but tricky parking on Folly Road.
Nearby options are: park and launch at Crosby’s. They may still have a couple buck launch fee. You can go under the bridge into Oak Creek from that direction. Or launch at Folly Ramp, head west and take first right into Oak Creek.
The restaurant is now the SAND CASTLE. Food OK, not cheap. I’ve caught some big reds in Oak Creek, haven’t caught a trout there but others say they catch them right at the restaurant dock.
second the anchorline highlander. I loved that place. for the price you could get more food than you could eat, and it had personality. I haven’t been in there since it closed. Also, second Oak creek. I got towed up the creek from the folly end by something before getting cut off on oysters or something.
