Kayaking to Oyster Beds???

I wasn’t sure where to post this so I figure I’d post it here in the hopes it would get the most views. I am looking for locations that I can reach via kayak to harvest a couple of buckets of oysters over the winter. My wife loves them and it would really be convenient if I could haul the kayak down and pickup some fresh oysters. I see some areas along the Folly and figure those beds are within reach. There are also some up around Paradise but the map says restricted. Not sure exactly what that means. How about Copahee? Any other areas, suggestions?

Doug, you could go to Beaufort and put in at the Lemon Island landing on the Chechessie. There is a public harvest area less than a half mile to the right from the landing.

Drive down to the public landing at the base of the last bridge on folly road before the beach. If you Kayak back across folly river the public beds are on the right. This is to say they are on the bank farther from the ocean and on the side of folly road closer to downtown thank farther. It is clearly marked with signs. Don’t go at high tide.

DNR has maps showing the public and State shellfish grounds.
Lots of the beds are strategically near public landings. Some have signs but lots don’t.
I use the ones in close proximity to Steamboat landing on Edisto Island. I have gone to them with a trolling motor on a Jon-boat before, so a kayak would be easy enough.
Got two buckets just last week while we were down.

The one on folly is like a 100 yard paddle in a kayak.

Would it be a longer paddle in a canoe?

Yes if you take into account falling out and then getting towed back to dump the water and try again.
