I wasn’t sure where to post this so I figure I’d post it here in the hopes it would get the most views. I am looking for locations that I can reach via kayak to harvest a couple of buckets of oysters over the winter. My wife loves them and it would really be convenient if I could haul the kayak down and pickup some fresh oysters. I see some areas along the Folly and figure those beds are within reach. There are also some up around Paradise but the map says restricted. Not sure exactly what that means. How about Copahee? Any other areas, suggestions?

Put in at IOP and head up Hamlin behind Goat Island. Not a bad paddle and I got a bunch last year. Haven’t put in at copahee. Check out the maps on sc.dnr.gov. I tried to post a link but my phone wouldn’t let me copy and paste it.
Hey DF, in your old age, I’ll make it easy for you. If you’re coming down I26 get off at Exit 199/17N! Drive down a couple of blocks and on the left will be Sellsfish’s store. Save all the cold water mud and paddling! Get some of that Pastrami Smoked Salmon, while you’re in there:stuck_out_tongue:
Yeah, maybe in a few years but I still like to get out and have an “adventure” and my son likes doing it so it is time we can spend together. I do want to try some of that Pastrami smoked salmon.

You can put in at IOP marina. I’ve never paid a launch fee with a kayak but I park the truck outside of the marina. My father in law swears the oysters from R274 in the sewee area are better cause he says there is less water pollution up north there. I can’t tell em apart but it is a quick paddle from Cape Romain landing. A little further drive probably but it’s real close to the landing. I love that area especially during the summer, hardly any boat traffic at all.
Also - don’t forget to take a hammber and chisel and only take live oysters. Knock the dead ones off and leave them in the mud -or they will never grow back.
