Looking for a good sit on top kayak that I can take in the saluda but also use in the mangroves in Florida. Suggestions or offers?
New, used? Talk to DolphinD at Timeout Sports in Mt. P. Check CL, and the classifieds here.
Do some research on the web. But I agree, talk to Dolphin D. I am biased towards the Malibu kayaks. I bought one and it is very stable, has everything I need and it is not terribly overpriced.

I like Malibu’s too, because my buddy has two of them and that’s what we fish on.
If I ever have $4K sitting around and need to get rid of it, I’m buying a Hobie Pro Angler with the mirage drive. Those things are as sweet as it gets.

Big Ugly Homemade Blue Push Pole
Looks like there are 2 decent ones posted up on CL now…
FWIW, I just bought an ocean kayak scrambler sit on top for $250 from craigslist. After seat, paddle, rod holders, hatches, and rigging and gear, I’m probably closer to $500. May be worth buying a kayak/paddle bundle already rigged, or nearly rigged.
Another vote here for Dave at Timeout. He will take care of you.

Remember the first kayak I fished out of, it was a Prijon T-Canyon while doing a trip on the Selway river in Idaho about 87. Have fished a lot of different kayaks in the years since. My first salt-water fishing kayak was a Perception sit in. My views have changed over the years also. At one time I only wanted the high end kayak with all the frills. Had the depth finder and half a dozen rod holders on it and don’t think I caught any more fish than when I had a simple kayak with one or two rods. Kayak Fishing should be more simple and pure, as the sport as grown so has the complexity. We used to keep the kayaks on the trucks all the time and if we saw some water we wanted to fish we threw the yaks in the water and fished. Now I see guys taking an hour to get on the water (used to be one of them) and I just wonder if this is what kayak fishing should be.
Anyway just my opinion and it’s not worth much; would also recommend giving Dave a call, but remember you can find a great kayak to get out and catch fish without spending a fortune.
Lots of good brands out there…try to demo all the ones you are interested in.
Get out and try a couple before making a decision. I jumped the gun a little and went with the best deal on Craigslist which happened to be a future beach 144 angler. Don’t get me wrong, very stable and easy to stand up on and cast my fly rod or pole around. However, it is like paddling a barge. Where I launch from to hit the tide right I usually am against the tide on he way out or way in, and lets just say my shirts don’t fit in the shoulders anymore. Not totally complaining because it was only $200 but I could have spent more money then and not have to spend more to upgrade later. Also a good seat eases a lot of pains.
