keeping a few

New to kayak fishing and have caught a few trout and released them. I really enjoy it a lot. Every once in a while I would like to keep a trout or red to eat. Anyone have an easy way to keep one or two alive or at least fresh until I get back to the shore? Sure would appreciate any suggestions.

Either a cooler of ice or keep them on a stringer off the side of the yak is how I would do it. I plan on trying the stringer method next time I’m out if I’m lucky enough to catch a few. Downside is the fish will create more drag when paddling or they could attract sharks or gators. I haven’t seen any gators in the creek I fish and I’m hoping there arent any sharks as far up in it as I go.

I put this in the compartment behind the rear bulkhead in my kayak. K-Mart has them is stock most of the time. I fill it with ice and it will keep fish cool for 12+ hours even on the hottest days as long as you keep the zipper shut. The best thing about it is that it is soft and will conform to the shape of where ever you want to put it.
