Keeping fiddler alive a couple days

Picked up some fiddlers for fishing on Saturday. Would like to keep them in the garage until then but am concerned that it could get too cold overnight. Not sure if the wife will let me keep them in the house…
Any suggestions on keeping them warm enough in the garage if overnight temps are getting into the 40’s?

Put them under a lamp and leave the lamp on overnight? Or wrap them in a few towels, just make sure not over the top so that they can get air.
However, easiest thing is to just sneak them into the house late at night and take them back out in the morning.

You big wuss! Put them in a box and sit them on the dinning room table! If she asks what’s in the box, tell her, bait!

Great minds think alike…However, when I plugged in the utility light, the bulb blew.
On to plan B. Bring them in the house later tonight, put them in mud room, take them back out to the garage in the AM. Unfortunately, I think I’m going to have a good percentage of them perish anyway. But, they do seem to be enjoying the cat food I threw in there.

“hey honey, I’m going fishing all day Saturday… Oh, and by the way, I’m keeping some fiddler crabs in the house for 36 hours. The smell should be gone by Christmas”

put the wife in the garage and the fiddlers in the living room

If you have cat food, you probably have a litter box in there:question: somewhere! Which is worse

I fill up a couple water bottles with hot water, cap them, then stick them in the minnow bucket with the crabs. Leave that in the garage. Worked for me in colder weather than this.

It’s not going to be cold enough to worry about them. Put spanish moss or decomposed marsh grass dampened with river water in with them. They will keep for a couple of days like that.

Temps shouldn’t be an issue. The bigger problem is that fiddlers excrete a large amount of ammonia, which will kill them if allowed to build up. Flush your bait bucket with (preferably unchlorinated) water once a day and they’ll keep for a week at least.
