keeping fish on ice

Not sure if I’m in the right spot to post but i was in Mobile AL sat and stopped by Dauphin island and was talking to a capt. After telling him we couldnt keep ars he asked if i liked eating them and i said heck yea!! He gave me a sack full of filets and i was gonna freeze the ones i couldnt eat but a friend wants them never frozen to compare to store bought. They were caught sat and have been on ice ever since so will they be ok to eat tomorrow night or should i freeze them to keep from wasting them? Thanks for any advice

Anyone every freeze fish like shrimp, that is placing the shrimp in a bag of water and freezing the whole thing? The shrimp when thawed are as fresh as unfrozen shrimp.

I Have been freezing fish in water as long as I can remember. It lasts much longer and stays fresh.

If they have been iced well you should be fine tonight.

I always freeze fish in water. It doesn’t matter if its tuna or finger mullet, if it goes in the freezer it gets water.

Three-fourths of the Earth’s surface is water, and one-fourth is land. It is quite clear that the good Lord intended us to spend triple the amount of time fishing as taking care of the lawn.

If they aren’t already getting “soft” you can vacuum pack them and they will last much longer on ice. When they start to get soft and smelly I worry.

Properly vacuum packed fresh fillets will easily last a week in the fridge or well iced cooler.
