I have a pass to go fishing in the morning, but bait shops are closed.
My first thought was to get some shiners this afternoon, since I know they’ll be ok all night with just a bubbler. Then I thought maybe I’d get a couple dozen herring & try to keep them till morning. I had bad luck trying it last month when I was at Ricks, but I had over 5 dozen, forgot to leave the lid open, and my poly-fil filter clogged up, causing my pump to quit. I lost almost all of them.
I’ve got a Moeller 26 gal. tank with a Dannco aerator.

Bob, Take a spoon rod along tomorrow. The perch were biting pretty good for us yesterday and we caught a few stripers on spoons too. It’s always good to have a “PLAN B” just in case the stripers get lockjaw. Good luck.
If Striper aren’t biting top water in the first hour, dry down rod drifting in the main channel. Nobody I heard from yesterday caught anything up top. Maybe tomorrow will change things with the warm up today.
We caught some up top the other day, but they had to be targeted with downrods. 35-45 ft of water and fish were sitting within 5-10 ft of bottom. This is the second time in a row we have started with gizzards on boards without bites and ended up using herring on DR’s in order to catch fish.
Bob, I used to swap out all the time when I had city water. Just filled some 5 gal buckets and treated them with prime before dumping in the tank. Worked for me.
I didn’t have any Prime. I ended up losing about 8 of the herring overnight. I changed the water out as soon as I got to the lake yesterday morning. Now, for my report…
Got on the water at #4 at 7:30. Spent a few minutes changing water, then started to head up towards the forks. As soon as I got to about half throttle, it seemed like I jumped out of gear. Way high rpm & no go. Tried a couple more times & realized the prop hub is spun. It would go fine until it hit that “sweet spot”, at about 12mph & spin. So that was a great way to start my morning.
Started marking fish just at the mouth, so I put down the trolling motor and put out boards & a couple of down rods. I couldn’t buy a fish yesterday. Not a single bite. Tried spot locking over fish, down rods, live bait, cut bait, spoons and nothing was working. I worked my way up to the forks & back till about noon, when I gave up.
The two guys I talked to didn’t have much luck either. One boat said they got 1 short about 18". The other got 3. 2 shorts & 1 keeper at 23".
I ended up going home & worked on plan C.
It was still nice to be out on the water.

Bob, Better get to the lake early. That’s two good fishermen in that boat. With those two fishing together they might cause the lake to drop!
James, As always, it was fun fishing with you on Friday. Wife told me not to bring home any more fish the next time I go fishing. Y’all have fun. Wish I was there!
My buddy John and I got to #3 about 8:15 or so this morning, after a side trip to the Lexington Walmart. The big dummy forgot that he didn’t have a fishing license.
James & crew cruised in about 45 min. after we got there. We were drifting down rods & a free line with the trolling motor. They proceeded to catch perch right away. We, on the other hand, couldn’t catch a cold. We marked a lot of fish, but nothing was biting. Well, we did have a couple of hits, but no fish. Just like Sunday, we gave up about noon.
The worst part was, that on the drive home, I got a picture text from James of a nice striper.
Oh well, there will be other days.

Bob, you can always keep the phone number to buy a license overy the phone for stuff like that. Just need a DL# and CC or debit card and it’s valid immediately. I’ve called in a few from the lake before.

That’s good information right there! I’ve had to do the WalMart run for guests before and had one who remembered he didn’t have one after we had been fishing 4 hours. [:0] Thanks.
