Kens ASP crack

Yeah I know what yer thinkin…:stuck_out_tongue::stuck_out_tongue: but this is the fly these Asp’s over here are crushing! I think it’ll do ok for trout and reds too and if you tie it in all black it’d probably be a deadly night fly. I have been night fishin evry night for a week or so now and SLAYIN these fish with this pattern… It is the same pattern that I caught the Beast on :smiley: Here’s how ya tie it…

Kens Asp Crack… A how to tie guide…

Step one: Get your hook, I am using a size 1 bend back, well because I found a bag of hooks over here and they are about the size I need so we’ll how it fishes… Bend down your barb if you so desire. I highly suggest this to the newbie’s to fly fishing, it makes removing the hook from the back of your head so much easier #61514; Wrap the thread, I used black 3/0 un-waxed thread, from the front to the back right to the bend.

Step two: Grab a bunch of flashabou, color is salt and pepper, about 1 ½” long and tie in to the end… This color works well here but please adjust to your target species and size…

Step three: Tie in root beer cactus chenille, again this color works good here try different colors for where you are if this doesn’t work, and wrap the chenille up about ¾ of the shaft and tie off.

Step four: Tie in a big ol’ honkin black neck hackle, they seem to like it the woollier the better, and wrap the hackle, palmer if ya like, up the shaft to about 1/8” from the end and tie it off. I like to give it a half hitch to make sure it stays down.

Step five: Make sure you have a nice smooth head, whip finish, and trim. Apply head cement, I don’t have any so I am using super glue… hey… it works.

I like to fish this very slow and near the bottom with slow strips and twitches. I

nice! i also like the Baghdad avatar! i bet one of those big ol carp would eat that bugger! whats the story on the water there. i know they are ponds but are they very deep? let me know if you need any tying/fishing supplies…we can mail em to ya

I am doing alright now… I brought alot of stuff to tie with and the two rods are awesome… The Baghdad School of Flyfishing here at Baghdad is sponsoered by TFO but they are almost out of rods… a lot of them have broken tips and there club/school doesn’t make money so it is up to the president or members to pay out of pocket to get them fixed and since there are only a few people that are here for any length of time it’s kinda hard to get them fisxed/replaced… I know they are out of Backing… he said he has 3 setups with rods and reels and line but no backing so if anyone has any backing laying around they want to send you can send it ot me and I’ll get it over to them… we are set up on fly line and I think he has a few extra reels. I am going to head over probably tomorrow to see what he has and what we need and see if we can hit up some of the sponsors to get the stocks back up. Since the weather has cooled off there is a waiting list of people to sign out fly rods… Man I am glad I brought my own  But I met the president of the club yesterday and we fished a bit… great guy and I helped him out wiht his casting, now he is getting a little more accurate and a little more distance ( Thanks MadMike  )… I’ll check out their supplies and get back to ya’ll… As for the water it is heavily polluted nasty water but it is clear and in some spots deep… BAZILLIONS of fish though… a lot of small schools of big fish but a lot of big schools of smaller fish… I am still trying to get them dialed in 100%
