Going to the Key largo area for a day or two the first week of June for a granddaughter’s graduation and want to fish. Charter is probably not in the budget, but have read about some of the head (party)boats catching snapper and grouper. Anyone have any experience with them, good or bad?
Was there last week and went out on a boat called the Sailors Choice for $65 per person. Was a total waste of money. The tackle was horrible. Hooks were so dull you could barely get it through the bait yet hook a fish. Sat in one place the whole time while the captain and mate raved about the 6" fish that were caught. If in Key West go on the Salty Goat. Was one of the best trips I have had in 50 years of party boats.Same price and we caught a ton of different fish. Quality tackle and boat condition. Moved 3 times when bite slowed and fish kept getting bigger.
Went in December out Robbies Marina. Good crew, had a great time. Pay the extra for a spot at the back and free line for yellow tail snapper. Not necessarily for that reason but it puts you right in the chum slick. Also put out rigs for kingfish or other fish in the upper water column. Highly recommend.

X2 on Salty Goat.
My buddy Dan Bursma runs that operation. Nice guy and a great fisherman.

Thanks, the Sailors Choice website looked best, glad I asked. Maybe I will fish fro the bank for mangrove where my grandson fishes....only have a day so I don't want to get too far from the Largo area.
Without a boat, you are pretty much relegated to bridge fishing, which is mostly successful at night. Take bug spray if you go, or you will get eaten alive by mosquitoes.
