We’ve been through several anchors and have yet to find one that will hold the boat even with a fair amount of heavy chain on it. Can anyone recommend a good boat anchor that won’t cost me a fortune that will hold a 19 foot Key West boat?
Thanks

13 to 17 lb super hooker…with 10’ of 1/4 chain…guaranteed
LCGC - how much water are you anchoring in? that boat shouldnt be any trouble to anchor at all
We were only in 15 feet of water this past weekend with light to moderate wind but we admittedly had an undersized anchor. We forgot to bring the bigger anchor and only had the small one that came with the boat. But even with the bigger anchor it won’t hold so we’re looking for suggestions on something better.
thats odd. i use a small anchor and only have trouble over live bottom with strong tides. anything with sand or mud is a breeze
i use a small anchor and 8 foot of thick chain my anchor holds as soon as it hits the bottom how much chain do you have on your anchor

You could as an easy fix without lots of money…just temporarily shackle a mushroom anchor to the top of your chain. Did that last week and it worked like a charm.

Something ain’t working right. I’ve been using the acnhor that came with my 216 Bay Reef since I bought it, and it will hold the boat even in a deep creek or the ICW in a stiff breeze with a chop. It’s a standard Danforth anchor with 8’ chain. One of these should be plenty to hold your boat if you let out the right amount of rope relative to your depth.
LCGC, I have a Key West 186 CC and the standard danforth anchor and 4 ft of chain that came with the boat will hold it at the Grillage with a ripping curent, stiff breeze and pretty good swells. I have more trouble breaking the acnchor loose than getting it too hold. I agree with Comp Time, if you are using a Danforth, something is not right.

Might be a case of not enough line in the water.

Get a real danforth. I’ve tried some of those stamped aluminum look alikes and have had trouble with them. A true small 12 lb danforth with 5’ of chain will hold that boat. They do cost a bit more than the look alikes but are well woth it.
Ya gnaw wha I’m sayin?

I had a 196 Bay Reef before, and I didn’t have any trouble except when I was at the jetties. The key is a heavy chain. 8-10’ of 3/8 Galvanized chain hooked onto a cheap galvanized danforth style anchor will hold that boat in just about anything.
When at the jetties, I’d take the anchor way out, the back up to the jetties and throw a brick tied to a small rope onto the rocks. If you can’t get the brick back just cut the rope. You’re not out much at that point.
Happy boatin’ y’all!!
