Just booked a trip down to key west with the soon to b wife and parents from Aug 28 till Sep 4 . I was thinking of booking a charter to go after an onshore grand slam but was also wondering if any one has done any fishing on there own down there. I don’t have a boat so I know it will b a little bit harder to find some spots but any help from you guys would b greatly appreciated. I am buying a cables stowaway 8wt after the wedding and I just started tying my own flies. Can anyone fill me in on some spots I can try and what flies I should b tying. I am staying at the hyatt right next to the air port. Would really like to catch a bonefish.
Get a guide, if at all possible. Keys are a difficult fishery, especially on foot. If you have access to a vehicle, you might find some bones early in morning on oceanside of bahia honda, ohio or missouri keys. Kwan flies are easy to tie and will be fine for them.
