Key West This Weekend?

Hey Guys I’m heading to KW Friday for a quick weekend getaway with the wife. No fishing charters this trip but I’ll try and sneak out some point and fish. We’re staying on the water and there is a beach and small pier and marina so I’m hoping to find some fish love somewhere! I’ve got a 7’ 3 piece I bring with me when I travel to fishy places with a lil battle 2000 spooled with 10lb power pro.

So I need help with bait selection, I’ve got limited space and plan to bring a combo pack of my favorite Gulp shapes and colors but what else do you recommend? I’m also thinking of picking up some small bucktails in white, yellow and pink.

I’ve also got a call into an old man I fish Flamingo with but haven’t heard back from him yet as he’s probably fishing! I’ll share what he says when I hear back.

Thanks!

I’d take a couple of good topwaters. If you can find a dock with light and cast outside the light area, I have seen folks hook up with a snook or 2. Try a Trout Trick while you’re down there.

Frozen squid on small jigs, buck tails and top water lures should provide some action for you.

For more action, hit the Green Parrot for the band Suenalo. They’re fun and it’s going to be a good time.

The old man suggested I beef up my rig, get a mullet or some crab and catch a tarpon. He also mentioned flutter jigs or flathead bucktails.

thanks for the help.

Rap I’m sure we’ll make it to the Parrot, thanks!

Just remembered that the Fly Fishing Film Tour will be playin at the Tropic Theater on Sunday night. It’s always a nifty event and worth the ticket price if you’re still around.

That is the truth! Last time I went to Key West during spring break it took me 22+ hours from Charleston. I95 was a parking lot for most of it.
