Anyone know of any rentals (friends, etc) that are available for Aug 3-10? Also, has to allow a dog. Looking for accommodations for 8 people. I hate posting this on the website, but the rental market is so fragmented on the web, it’s hard to get a comprehensive list of what is out there and bookings for that week are slim right now.

We always rent through VRBO.com. We have also used homeaway.com. They both have filters that enable you to pinpoint what you are looking for.

How many bedrooms do you need? I may have a friend that’s out of town and may rent his!

It is nuts down there during lobster season, espcially at the opening. We are going down July 18 - 27. If you find anything around the Key Largo/Islamorada/Tavernier area, I’d be happy to do a recon run for you.
I’ll make one suggestion. Don’t pay attention to the calendars on VRBO and Homeaway. They are not updated as often as they should be and are not always accurate. I would send emails to any house you are interested in. It is not uncommon to have an owner respond with an opening when you are looking. Sending emails is easy through either site. Once you type in the body of your email and all other info, it transfers to each property as you open a page. I usually send emails to 10 - 15 properties as not everyone will repsond. We made our reservations 2 months ago and I have since had 2 property owners respond with discounted prices since they obviously have openings.
I know a couple of folks that have houses down there that are too big/expensive for me. What is your budget?

quote:Indeed, we have experienced the same. I have sent emails on many of the houses on VRBO with the same results. Either no response or they were already booked (even though calendar said otherwise).

Great! I’ll try not to catch all the fish before you get down there.
As if that could happen.

Kinda funny. Skinne never had to many good things to say about that area when he lived there.
