Kiawah River?

Hi, I am going to be vacationing at Kiawah in a few weeks. I will be bringing my kayak down. I have been there a few times, what I am thinking (with some help from “short dogg” in a previous post before this forum opened)is putting in at the bridge over the river and floating down to a dock near where I will be staying (Inlet Cove)What I am wondering is about how long of a float is this? While river smallmouth fishing here in southwest Va. I travel about a mile an hour. Does that sound about right for your area? If there are any other suggestions on places to paddle/fish close by I would appreciate any suggestions. Thank you, Tim Long

It isn’t very far at all from the bridge to the dock at Inlet Cove. In fact, you can see the dock from the bridge when you are coming into the island. I don’t know about fishing this stretch of water, I never have. However, I know alot of people fish from the bank around that bridge. I do know, that when you pass the dock if you keep going, you will eventually get to Capt. Sam’s Inlet. The docks directly across from the inlet are pretty good for fishing sometimes. I have also done well in the inlet itself fishing for bonnetheads. You just have to explore around that area. There are alot of places around there to try and I’m sure some of them hold fish. Since you have a kayak, you can really explore those small creeks that run all around Caseake (spelling?). I’ve never been really far into them due to the fact that my boat draws too much water to get way back in them, but it would be cool to see whats there.

The float would take you about twenty minutes, you should really put in at mingo pt. and paddle up current under the bridge till you get to the mud flats. Paddle around a bit and cast around the oyster beds. If you get tired then you could float back to Inlet Cove. I promise if you hit the mud flats at about mid falling tide, you will not be let down.

Shote Dogg,
I know Mingo Point…been there the past couple years for good eating, cold beer and bluegrass! (■■■■ fine combination) Putting in at Mingo Point isn’t a problem? I was thinking that the entrance was roped off or something when there wasn’t a function going on? Can’t wait to give it a shot…like I have said before, I may not catch anything, but it won’t be from lack of trying! Thanks for everyone’s input…be down in 17 days! Tim Long, Salem, Va.

That part of Mingo is not accessible unless you are a guest of the resort but just before you get to the end of the road there is a bank on the right. Its the sameplace where the naure program takes their kayak trips from.I’m not talking abut the dock but the bank on the right before you get to the dock. their might be a chain up but that is to prevent people from parking there, you can still get around it to launch
