Pod of Killer Whales Take on Fisherman Off Oregon Inlet, NC
Thursday, March 24, 2011 Posted by CB Today

On March 18th, 2011, a group of fisherman were enjoying a great day of tuna fishing off Oregon Inlet, NC when they soon discovered that their caught tuna had become prey for a much larger predator.

‘Holy Crap’ was how one guy described it when they found themselves surrounded by a pod of Orcas that were going after their catch. After pulling in a whopper sized 81 inch tuna, they had a few moments to snap some photos of the Killer whales.

Here you can see the tuna in the bottom right

From the bottom right you can follow the line to the mouth of the whale and see the blue of the lure and the tuna in the mouth of the orca

strip…strip…FISH ON!

Incredible creatures for sure, used to do a lot of work with the Whale Museum in Friday Harbor WA., counting, photographing, etc… Had one once surface 3 feet away from my kayak about 3 miles from land and dang near soiled my waders untill it rolled onto its side and I was able to look directly into it’s eye, one look into its eye and one could just see the intelligence level present and it immediatly put me at ease knowing it had no bad intentions whatsoever, it dove then it’s small calf (9ft) surfaced right alonside me as well. Was truley a incredible experience, it was made me get involved with the research in the San Juan Islands.

Yeah, but do you consider a dog to be a filthy animal? I wouldn’t go so far as to call a dog filthy but they’re definitely dirty. But, a dog’s got personality. Personality goes a long way.

Someone needs to alert the SAFMC or whatever bs govt agency is responsible for managing the bluefin to inform the orcas of their harvest limits…
