Launched the boat at 6 from remleys and made it to the end of the jetties at 27 knots to find a steady 3 to 4 foot chop and a se headsea. I should have went more north at that point but I had the gleam in my eye of the warm water to the south… anyway I had my brother of 50 and long time friend ( both who have never caught a dolphin) along this time, first bluewater trip.
After a long bumpy ride in my 23wa I started short of the ledge, lines in around 8:15 shortly thereafter cedar plug on the long rigger goes off zzzzzzz bonita… then a few minutes later another.
As we got near the ledge we got both Barry and Joey their first dolphin and around 11 a.m. the long rigger goes off, green seawitch, turns out to be a king mackerel in 165’.
As range became an issue for me before we found the warmer water we turned back inshore and found a couple more dolphin to end a day highlighted with lots of firsts and plenty of fun. Could have been better but a heck of a lot better than looking at the boat wondering… warmest water we found was 73 degrees
4 decent size dolphin
1 king mackerel
