king reports?

Anyone reporting catching kings off the rocks, in the shipping channel, or within 5 miles or shore? Haven’t seen any reports on the forum, although the spanish were thick about a week ago when we went out.

Buddy of mine whos a big king fisherman said they caught one over 40lbs last week in 35ft.

Get out There!

Dang ya’ll boys sleeping down there in Charleston

Somebody got to be catching kings.

We are headed to PCB in late June for vacation but I am going hard after the ARS and kings. Hope to send pics

Going to spend several weekends down at IOP in August-Labor Day weekend, hopefully by then they will be wide open

Think we are coming down 11th of August and just going to leave my boat at our house through Labor Day weekend and maybe longer so I can run down from upstate quicker to fish for weekends

they are catching some off the folly beach pier.try trolling the beaches.

that’s good to hear. no reports on the forum from the pier folks catching kings. i always check them as well.

alot of the guys stopped posting, but they are catching them.

there are very few fish north of Charleston near shore or off shore. Look at the results of the Jolly Mon tournament.

No kings to speak of caught on Folly Pier yet. Water temps near shore are approaching mid 80’s. If the winds were to calm down I’d be looking in the 90ft range. As it is, I keep thinking my next boat might have to be a big cat!

I’m getting ready to spend 2 weeks in Ocean Isle. I was hoping for better results from the tournament. However, the fishing centers daily reports said they got 6 or 7 Kings at the 90’s about a week ago so who knows.

RWL - live baiting or trolling? any size? which set of cans? thinking bout going this weekend?

They have been a lot of help in years past. That whole area is what got me started on Kings to begin with. We averaged 3 per day the last 3 years running, I’m hoping we can repeat it!

trebaum, doing the same ole thing that has been done in the shipping channel forever. in the 20’s and don’t know about the one that got away.

check sharky’s post. one over 20lbs that i’ve heard of from folly, pretty sure there have been more since then.

saturday was snotty and the LCA tourney weighed kings- saw a boat kitefishing between the jetties a month ago during the CLA. trick is finding big hadens out there to work around- not many of the right size from what i’ve been told.

We went out on Wednesday just to give the boat a good shake down and to try a few spoon / plug combinations I have been wanting to test and see if they behaved in my spread. It was a pretty ugly ride for a small boat. Water temps 85 in the harbor, 82 at the Charleston 60, 81 at the 400 hole and end of shipping channel. We didnt hardly even mark anything living on sonar. No birds (except on crab island), not even behind the shrimp boats. Even on a bad day we can usually catch a cuda or two.

I wanted to run to the Y-73 and Comanche area, but it was suppose to get worse as the day went on, and it was already less than ideal, so we called it after a half day.

We are going to make one last run to the ledge for larger game (on a bigger boat) monday, and hopefully after coming back from vacation there will be some productive nearshore fishing.

Barbawang…I saw sharky’s post…I called the pier and they reported to me only 2 kings caught this season.

Part of our testing was to run some stretch 25/30 lures in our spread. It became quickly apparent that running those with top water skipping lures was problematic. The lures seemed to track pretty wide right to left. If I want to run a full spread I guess the plugs will have to go on a downrigger.

Anyway, Good luck everyone.
