Fished in 90 ft. today and the bite was pretty good. Caught 4 kings, 1 over 30. Pulled the hooks on one about 35. Caught 5 amberjacks and finished the day with a triple header. 2 nice kings and a big sailfish. Chased him down and had him boat side for pictures and a quick release.
The bite probably would have been better if not for the east wind and dirty water. Fishing should get even better over the next 2 months.
What is your bait strategy as the water gets colder? I know there is plenty out there right now, but as the bait gets scarce do you start to jig em up or use cigar minnows or artificials. Thanks for the report
You can catch menhaden all the way through Nov. Then I switch to frozen cigars or sardines. I fish anchored with a couple of lines with weighted jig heads. Fish are usually thick in 90-120 ft Dec. and Jan.
listen to capt robert. i go fishing once a year with a guy up in wrightsville beach who does charters all summer for mahi/bottom fish but during the winter he commercially fishes kings… he said its like taking candy from a baby…
