No stretch. The mono acts like a shock absorber when they strike, run, and jump. Something has to give, and most of the time it’s the hooks being torn out of their mouth if your rig is spooled with braid. Now don’t get me wrong, braid is awesome line. I use it for many applications, salt and fresh water. Nothing is better for deep drop bottom fishing for grouper and snapper. I don’t do much creek/inshore fishing for reds and flounder, but i’ve seen more than one person say that braid was the only way to go. So, there are many apps for braid, but trolling isn’t one of them. My humble opinion of course.

I know guys that troll using braid, but they top shot like 40 or 50 yards with mono. I tried trolling with strait braid, even softened the drag up a bit, and went to a much lighter tip rod, but I still lost fish. Maybe I wasn’t holding my mouth right or something.

Ya, we run about 30 yards of fluoro on ours as well. Even with our mono.
