Anyone found any Kings. Looking to make my last trip out next week, if it lays down, and was wondering if anyone has tried the fall/winter king bite?
We went twice last week. They were thick in the 70’ range on the black banks. We caught some further out in 95’ as well. Just fish livebottom that’s holding bait in the 68 to 72 deg temp range and they should be chewing.
Thanks. Glad to see someone still likes to catch the kings.
There are too many kings in 100 ft. right now. Could have caught a boat load today. Ended up only putting 7 in the box. All good mid twenties. Only fished one line behind the boat while bottom fishing for a few hours. Frozen sardine on king rig, too easy. I thought I was in Biloxi for the first hour…
Tight lines, Robert.

I’m looking to take a buddy who doesnt fish much and try to catch some. Possibly on Sunday. I was thinking that King fishing might be the way to go to keep his interest and get him fired up about fishing. I’d probably just run 4 rods with a mix of frozen cigar minnows on stinger rigs, drone spoons behind #1-2 planers, and maybe a Yo Zuri. Was also thinking about sabiki’ing up some live bait to troll or drift. The problem at hand is that my temp gauge just went out and my e120 is reading 179ish for sea temp, so I am having to rely on sea surface temps maps. Anyone have any advice on where to troll or drift up some kings this weekend for my buddy? Any help is much appreciated.

At the moment it looks like to get into the magic 68-72 degrees you have to be out at the 25 fathom mark according to the Sea Surface Temp maps. I don’t know if I want to run that far for kings…

Bigfish if you need a tag along drop me a line. Kings are my white whale and I could use all the help I can get. I will help in all costs.
A wise man once said “Do as I say not as I do” Good advice when I tell you that.
All the fish are stacked in 100-120 ft. right now and the temp is 65-67. Any live bottom that is holding bait, there should be schools of them. They will be here for the next month or so. If anyone is interested. I am running full day trips for $800 to target them and a few of the other fish we are allowed to keep right now.
If anyone is interested in catching some kings let me know. PM or call.
Thanks, Captain Robert Olsen, Knot @ Work Fishing Charters.

Thanks for the lead K@W. Much appreciated. I didn’t end up going as my buddy ended up not wanting to make the trip.
Hey Opps, I’ll definitely keep you in mind if I am looking to get a crew together for a trip. It’ll probably be next year though, b/c I’m likely going to go ahead and put the boat up until March-April. No sweat though as we’ll difinitly go and put you on your “white whale” and maybe even a big hoo or sail.
Who knows though, if the weather ends up working out next weekend I might postpone winterizing the boat another week.
