We picked up a 20 lb king on the 31st, saw more jump, had anothercut off, and we weren’t even fishing for them. We watched a commercial boat trolling in circles hand lining them in large numbers. I never really thought about targeting them this time of year.
Last January there was a few scattered kings it looked like around a big school of bonita. I saw a few fish break the surface feeding and they were to long and thin for a Bonita and big mouthed.
We were out at 70 feet last weekend and saw a massive school that appeared to be bonita. I wonder if it could have been kings… We were headed for grouper so we didn’t stop.
Jeff, was picking up shrimp at Shem Creek yesterday and a commercial boat was there had 3000lbs of Kings, one day by himself! Must be thick this year!
If it got any better I couldn’t stand it.
Must be shipping all of those Mercury Missiles up north. Although I’m not above eating one right off the boat.
I used to fish with a guy out of Wrightsville Beach and that’s all he did during the winter. Shipped em all to Canada apparently.
