Anyone around here tried it or had any luck? I know its pretty big in the keys during the sailfish bite.
Sounds like a lot of work but if it produces then I’m in. Just wanted to see if anyone around here is doing it.

Back when some yellowfin were still around, we would troll with a kite with one rig skipping on surface. Nailed some dolphin and wahoo that way, but never was lucky enough for a yft.
I’ve used them here live baiting for kings. They work. Caught a lot of cudas and AJs with them too.

Thanks SchoolsOut1 and Cracker Larry.
What kite brand do you prefer and have you ever had to use a balloon on light wind days?
We were pulling a parafoil type or whatever it was called. Luis at BlueMarlinChronicles sent it to me to try out. It wasn’t the type that you would use while sitting still or drifting.
Had some success with blackfin as well.

Some of the charter sporties slay the blackfin in the winter early spring with the kite. They don’t talk about it though

I’ve only used Aftco brand, never messed with balloons much. Keeping a helium tank seems like a lot of trouble and there is usually enough breeze.

Trolled with a parasail a few times at home up in North Carolina. Two lines dangling…usually Yummiest flying fish. Baits above the water more than touching it. Pretty awesome watching 50# footballs jumpin several feet in the air over and over until one finally connects.
Used do alot of kite fishing out of NC. Whether was a king or YFT the strike is unmatched. I cannot speak on if more effective or not than trolling just under surface but I do know it works. I am yet be on boat out of Charleston that has kite fished.
