Knot for anchor line

What’s the best way to tie two ropes together? I want to add 100ft to my existing anchor line. It’s 3/8" rope.
Thanks, Bob

What ever you do, put a shackle or some other device so you can unhook it. I use a ss carabineer big enough to hook to my anchor ball after the first 100’ section. I doubled the line over to make a good sized loop and put a square knot in the whole end doubled over so I can unhook it easily and hook the anchor to the ball.

I used two bowlines to add 100 extra feet to my reef anchor a couple years back. Its held just fine since then.

I would splice it, especially if it’s 3 strand.

Just splice it! Quick and easy and much stronger than any knot. The attached vid is a good tutorial.

If it’s not 3 strand (or for a quick/temporary splice), I use a tucked sheet bend. Way stronger than it looks.

Use a Zeppelin bend knot and crank a little ramble on while you tie it.
