I have some pretty basic (but very important) questions: What types knots do y’all use for reds and trout, and how do you make the determination on when to use each? Your thoughts, please…
B/B I use the knots that hold. Your question is depending on what type of line you use. Different knots for mono, braid and a combination of both. Here is a web site I like to reference. They also have a APP for smart phone users.

A wise man once said “Do as I say not as I do” Good advice when I tell you that.
When I’m tying mono or braid to swivels, inline popping corks, hooks, etc I’ll use a Uni knot. It’s quick, easy and strong. If I’m tying a mono leader to braided mainline, I’ll use a Uni To_Uni or a Double Overhand. The DO is very strong and very quick to tie but works best if there’s nothing tied to the end of the mono leader yet. If I tie a jighead or lure to my mono leaer, I’ll use a Uni Loop knot. I used to use the Improved Clinch and Palomar knots a lot more but have gotten so used to tying the Uni that I don’t even fool with them.
Also, if I ever tie my braid to any hardware (swivels, popping corks, etc) I wrap the braid around the swivel eye twice before tying the knot, not just once as I would do with mono.

Excellent advice, both of y’all. Thanks for getting back to me.
mono or flouro - i only tie improved cinch
Braid - polamar period.
I fish carolina rigs 99%… braided main line with barrell weight tied with polamar to a swivel tied with improved cinch to a hook also tied with imoproved clinch.
I vote Uni for mono/flouro, Palomar for braid. I’ve never had problems. But that doesn’t mean they are the best, just that my brain is full and those are the ones I already know!
