Anything showing up yet in Columbia?
My guess is it’s still a bit early, but I have heard a smattering of intel coming from the upper Lake Marion area that they are beginning to show up.
Still early…had boats a little below 601 last weekend and they zeroed.

Right around Easter usually seems to be pretty good in Columbia. I don’t fish the Congaree these days, but I do usually start stopping by Rosewood and down around Gervais in April just to see how they’re doing to get an idea of what to expect in the Saluda a little later in the season.
With the lake as high as it is and spring on the way, I would think there should be plenty of water running this spring, making conditions favorable for a good spawn this spring.

Fished yesterday below Low Falls. No stripers but a few decent catfish to fry. The water looks good but no takers on cut herring. That being said, I did not fish during low light hours so they may have been there. Lots of river riders. I am in amazement at the number of recreational boaters that ride their boats up and down that river all day.
I stopped down at Rosewood on Saturday after the Sportsman’s Classic and there was a good 25 trailers in the parking lot. Wasn’t there long and the few people I did talk to said they’ve been catching some, but mostly smaller fish so far.

Caught 46 over the past 4 days in the Congaree. Measured every fish. Smallest was 18" largest was 30". Average size about 24-25". Caught them all trolling. No big fish above the 77 bridge yet.

30 inch, 10 pound fat lady this morning at the lock. Casting a fluke. Only bite I had, probably one of my last casts.
DaConch, what are you trolling?
Can I borrow your towel? My car just hit a water buffalo.
Thanks - will try it soon and report
Dang, I may have to give striper fishing a try.

Cbrods. We are mostly trolling broke-back rapala type divers. Look for something that dives about 4-6 feet. I also highly recommend trolling upriver against the current, and troll fast. You should be doing a solid 3.5 - 4 knots SOG.

I am planning on coming up to fish for Stripers. Trying to decide if Saluda or Congaree would be better for wade fishing. Some places to access the rivers and some good lures to bring. Any help would be appreciated. Fish for Stripers in Lake Moultrie with stretch 25’s, buck tails and other deep swimming lures. I don’t think they will work in the shallow river.

Your best bet is to fish on the downriver side of the Gervais St Bridge. Both sides of the river have parking and access and the fishing can be very good. I would probably wait a couple of weeks. A weekday is best if you can do it.
I like 1/2 oz bucktail/worm, but they can be a bit hard to fish without getting hung if there isn’t much water running. Shallow running plugs are good as well as swim baits. Top water is worth trying too… mostly early am or late evening.

quote:Thank you for the reply. My daughter lives in Lexington. I work shift work. Would try and come on a week day for sure. I do not like fishing on the weekend and have not done so for 9 years. Pretty easy to wade around near the bridge? I went and watched a couple of regional series games at the Gamecocks baseball field last year and went to (I think it was called Cayce city park) that was near the bridge. Thought about that location , too.

The little park in Cayce is near the Blossom St bridge. I’m not sure if there is any access there or not. Normally wading around Gervais is fairly easy unless the water is up, then it is hard to wade pretty much anywhere.

The fish are there now.

Good to hear. I’m going to try and launch the yak from the Rosewood landing Friday morning and paddle up to the lock. It’s suppose to rain Wednesday and Thursday however so the current might be a little to swift for me to do that. I might end up walking the banks hunting for good fishing spots.

Who’s been catching from the bank? I might go walk some banks around the Gervais bridge today, most likely on the West Columbia side
