Got some Edisto grown tomatoes, corn, eggplant and watermelon that I picked this afternoon. All we had was hamburger meat so we’re doing grilled hamburger steak with garlic/thyme gravy, grilled eggplant, corn on the cob, and tomato pie (my personal favorite). Got everything assembled so we’ll see how it turns out. I haven’t bought a single vegetable from the grocery store in about three months, love living down here in the summer.
Good stuff. Was to hungry to wait on the tomato pie to cool so it fell apart, still good.
We had a similar meal. Corn, fried okra, rice casserole and grilled hamburger steak. My 15 mo old boy was two @#@@ the okra and hamburger. When he ran out on one it “oka oko oka oka oka” or “hambug, hambug, hambug”. Then mom broke out the nanner puddin’. Its good to know when your raising a true southern boy.

Yeah, but do you consider a dog to be a filthy animal? I wouldn’t go so far as to call a dog filthy but they’re definitely dirty. But, a dog’s got personality. Personality goes a long way.

That gravy looks awsome - what’d you use for a base since you grilled the burgers? I’d like to try my hand at that this evening since we’re having grilled venison burgers, and there is a ton of fresh thyme in my herb garden I’ve not figured out what to do with! Thanks!
I don’t do exact measurements so here goes:
I had some beef boullion so I made about a cup and a half of beef broth with that (I made it a little stronger than the package said though since I didn’t have any drippings from the burgers).
First melt about 2 tablespoons butter in your pan, add about 3 finely minced garlic cloves and add about three spoonfuls of flour. Let this cook for few minutes until the mixture starts to turn light caramel. Then slowly add your beef broth while whisking to avoid clumps. Now add lots of fresh ground pepper and about 3 sprigs chopped fresh thyme. Now bring the whole thing to a boil for about two to three minutes, whisking the whole time. Remove from heat. Salt to taste but be careful because the boullion has lots of salt already.
Gotcha, Billder! Thanks much for the details. I’ve made gravies using just butter, flour, milk/water and seasonings, but yours looked a bit too dark for it to have been just that. I’m not one to measure or follow a recipe exactly, either, by the way…
That is what I call a super supper…good work.
You know, people complain about food costs, but that supper had to be very economical…I would guess 3 bux or less per person and it looks good and I am sure tastes good also.
reelly…
