Headed out yesterday morning for a full day aboard The Teaser with the husband, best GF and her two young boys… I wanted the boys to, at least, get the idea of what trolling was all about. But, I wanted to bring home groceries as well as we know this isn’t the time of year to troll.
Captain Allen and Mark were great - we loaded up on pogies just outside of Shem Creek - two tosses and Mark had the drum jam packed. We sped out toward the North area and dropped lines to immediately hook up a big ambo which helped the oldest boy’s seasickness immensely. He passed the rod to his younger brother, so they both got to share the experience of reeling in a fish. We released the ambo to immediately set lines again and caught two small cudas. Nuff of that as we didn’t want cudas and ambos, and Allen and Mark were ready to take us to where they do their best. Let me tell you, they did their best and then some!
We ended the day with 14 grouper (3 monster gags and 11 scamps) - the husband and I were dropping and reeling as fast as we could as the other anglers were just a bit nauseated but participated as much as their sickness would allow. Don’t think they liked it much when I said you prayed for days offshore like the one we had yesterday! In addition to the grouper, we kept 14 big green headed black sea bass, a nice silver snapper and a monster trigger. Released probably a dozen or so big reef donkeys, but they kept us in good shape!
Back at the docks, it was nice to be greated by someone else who was to clean the boat! We enjoyed a few cold ones and watched Allen and Mark work wonders to hand over to us just a little under 220 pounds of awfully pretty filets. I had to pull the husband away from the fish cleaning station numerous times as he wanted to jump in to help so much. Matter of fact, he wanted to help all day long, but Allen and Mark insisted we were the customers - they did a fabulous job taking very good care of us! Did I mention how nice it was to not have to clean up the boat?
I’d only been out on a head boat once, and that was years ago on Allen’s Thunderstar. We bottom fish lots when trolling and inshore aren’t that hot, but we’ve never loaded up on grouper the size of the ones we brought home last night! Well worth the expense and ease on the old body!
Oh, I forgot to mention Jerry in my initial post, and I cannot forget him! Mark is the owner of The Teaser while Captain Allen and Jerry worked with us yesterday. I’m still rockin’ and rollin’ just a little! And, I’d just emailed Mark to commend his crew… And, it’s still early on Monday morning.
Capt Mark is the best I’ve ever known. The Teaser2 is a fishing machine.Glad y’all got to go with him.I filled up every compartment on my bayboat yesterday in 98ft.The btm bite was on!
I think I just figured out Photobucket such that I, at least, added the link to an photo of the first peek in The Teaser’s fish box! I could be dangerous!
Believe me, I wish I knew! I’m planning to charter them again the end of September when my Daddy comes for a visit. Gonna show Daddy he didn’t raise no sissy girl:kissing_closed_eyes:! I never understood why he wouldn’t take me with him and my twin brother on the head boats they’d go on out of Myrtle Beach on family vacations when I was little!
