L Buoy 2/5/19

Went out to check my fuel burn with the new props. Thanks to SAFMC I get to KEEP 7 Black Bass. Fished by myself and was done in an hour. Practiced beam to drifting after 35 years of stern to drifting. Old dog new trick.

That’s a nice mess of fish. Glad you posted, I had no idea the creel limit was reduced to 7 fish!! Crazy stuff. What kind of fuel consumption did you end up with?

What is “beam to drifting” vs “stern to drifting” ?

Was down to three a few years back. Then five, now seven. We caught 60-70 legal size a week ago and over100 shorts. You can hardly fish for other species in some areas now. Thanks SAFMC for your brilliant management strategies.

Been a bit for me on offshore bottom fishing. I believe it was 30 per person with a 10” min. ? Crazy what they have done to the recreational people. I understand we need regs but this stuff on ars and bsb is overboard.

The catamaran drifts(wind) broadside to the waves…beam to. My 25 Bertram drifted with the stern to the waves. Maybe Bryson can explain why a cat does that. The cat is more influenced by wind than the Bertram is. Two rods out the back are easier to fish than off the side when fishing by youself.

That’s off Edisto. There used to be buoys offshore of Ga at all the DNR managed fishing sites. The state put tugs/barges/culverts out there and had one buoy at the L. It was a manmade reef site…KC buoy/J buoy.Back in the day you ran by compass/tune a tube loran/dead reckoning.

As loran changed to gps, the buoys became something to worry about running into at night(unlit) and were removed.

I always liked seeing something floating, just in case…one guy off HHI spent the night hanging on the T reef buoy I believe.

You’ve just confused half of this site, old fart.

Who in the heck would ever keep a 10" BSB? They eat real good, but shrink in the cooler.

Filled up today. 47.3 gallons for a 70 mile trip. $174.54 fuel…$4.95 for a tub of squib…those 7 black bass cost me $25.64 per fush. If this was a stock, I’d cut my losses. The reality of offshore fushing. Being able to go experience the beauty of it…priceless.
