Glanced at forecast a couple times Sunday and thought “well maybe dusty going out but laying down later”…wrong of course. Flags flapping at the marina at 3:30 am…hmmm. Oh well. Had fun picking thru all the dredge pipe buoys in the dark and the ride out seemed pretty comfortable but as the sun came up it was white caps for as far as you could see. Dropped in at 150’ and quickly were set upon by two cudas. Came across a weedline that somehow was holding together running NE/SW, picked up a small mahi and a mid-20’s king, 78 degrees one side 81 the other. from 145 to 160 saw millions of flyers from bullets to 12", acres of them. Wind freshened around 1030 to 15-20 and 20+ off the ledge. In the deep, swells were 6’-8’ with a chop on top and made it a lot of fun for the crew to keep the lines straight
Had a couple UFO’s come unbuttoned after strong runs but still beat working. Roughest day I’ve fished in 10 years. Hope the bait hangs around for the full moon.
Nice to know there was a SECOND boat on the ocean. We were east and didn’t see a second recreational vessel from 0530 till back in the jetties.
Don’t recall that happening before.
The more I stared at the forecast willing it to calm down, the windier it got.
Glad you made it out and back safe, hopefully the fishing will straighten out this week.
I wouldn’t have been out there yesterday unless I was getting paid to. A lot!

Left the dock at 5, and felt like we were the only boat. Ran to the Edisto Banks and picked up a nice king, and a missed a few after nice pull downs before deciding to head back. Most flyers and dolphin (flipper) I have seen. Worst conditions I have ever decided to suffer through but as mentioned still better than working.
You guys are hard core! I’m interested with the cooling water when the wahoo and blackfin start to show up. The sea temps look so mixed with hot, cooler, hot, cooler …Not sure where to start if we were to get out there. Thanks for the reports.
My back is sore this morning…
Left Ripley at 7:00 am with the wife and one of our daughters who came in from Vegas with her boyfriend. Got 8 miles form the Gardens and he was begging to go back. Turned and headed to the hill.
Ha! We looked for you all day…you made the right call.
