Woke up at 5:15 and saw heavy looking clouds drifting in, so I decided to take the dog for his morning walk to see if it was going to rain before heading to the boat launch. As the dog walk progressed it was apparrent that the clouds were broken so I hitched the boat up and headed to the launch. Got the boat in the water and tied up to the dock where a father and son were crabbing, nice folks and already 4 in their bucket. After I parked the truck, I climbed back into the boat and as I pulled away from the dock my motor stalled due to one of the crabbers lines having become wrapped around my prop(great start, eh?). Got the line off the prop and headed out to the creek I wanted to fish, then drifted down the West bank with the tide while working the top water with a Skitter Walk.
Boated this one little juvinile spec on the Skitter Walk and as it was an hour or so after sunrise, I decided to switch to a carolina rigged mud minnow around some structure. Managed to round up a dozen or so minnows into the live well and sat down to watch the clouds drift by…
Nothing hitting the mud minnow after 10 minutes so I decided to fish a few spots on the way back to the boat landing. The first dock I stopped at the water was really ripping through so I headed to another old favorite spot and dropped anchor. Tossed the mud minnow under the dock and within 30 seconds had a fish on. Boated him, re-baited and threw to the same spot. Another 30 seconds and fish on again. Ended the morning with 2 in the live well and back home by 9:30 to a pretty wife and a warm breakfast. Wish I could start every week like that…
