Labor Day Weekend Report

Lots of bait in the creek on Saturday. All of the mullet and shrimp I needed in 2 throws of the net. Fished the first couple of hours of rising tide. 4 monster reds in the yak, all over 25 inches. 3 slot reds also landed. all released healthy. big fish on mullet under popping cork and one on the bottom. ladyfish were thick and I played with them a little.

saw something I had never seen before. heard lots of thrashing around a corner so I decided to paddle over to check it out. rounded the corner and there are atleast 10 reds working mullet on a mud flat that was no more than 6 inches deep. these were all big fish with 1/2 of their bodies exposed. I have seen one or two do this, but never this many at the same time. what a site!

sunday, big reds not at the spots. caught 5 puppy drum and lots of ladyfish.

great time on the water.

Sounds like you had a slightly better day than I. We tried a new spot in Cooper today, taking 6 flounder and 1 nice red, many u/s reds, trout, and flounder. My first time saltwater fishing in a canoe.
Ya’ll ever notice you can make the flounder’s eyes move by moving your finger in front of them? …cool.
What size net do you throw from the yak?

I take a 5 ft net in a 2 1/2 gallon bucket that fits behind my seat. Find a spot I can get out and load up.
