I grew up fishing santee cooper. My father new a bunch of store owner from santee to eautawville. I hear all the time about how tourism is so bad, catfishing is on the decline, lack of grass causing a decline in fishing, guides are responsible for keeping to many fish. Google fishingreports on santee coope and see the most recent reports! How can you expect tourism if the guides aren’t even giving reports. I fish more salt water now than I do fresh. Fish the ace basin. You have a lot better reports from salt water fishermen than fresh. Even the campground don’t give up to date reports.

I have to agree that catfishing has tanked. We fished a spot several times in the past year that was previously very productive, and we got nearly no activity at all.

I still have hopes for the coming couple years, the weeds are back up (if the grass carp they released don’t eat everything in sight) and the new 36" limit (one only allowed) should help keep the larger spawning stock around as long as they enforce it. There are a LOT of folks on those lakes who break every law they possibly can to put fish in the cooler.

Moral judgment under girds the entire structure of laws and is necessary for the rational structure of any significant statute. The idea that our laws can stand independent of moral foundation is senseless.----- Albert Mohler.

i saw a guy at tailrace not long ago about 15 yards over the line and casting towards the dam at least on one if not more occasions, mentioned him to the dnr kid at the ramp the next time i saw him, and then had a good laugh when he said him and his hundreds of pounds of illegally taken catfish he bragged about got busted.
