Lady Ashley 4/3/16

I haven’t been able to get out for quite a while after getting a few repairs done on the boat over the cold months, but was finally able to spend mid-afternoon on the Ashley on Sunday. What a great couple of hours! Last year at this time, I was still working to find them but this year, they’re seem to be in mid-spring form. Ended the day with a psuedoslam. I say pseudo because the flatty was undersized. I can sympathize with Stonoman, as I have still not figured out how to effectively fish the river on outgoing tide. Tide was about 3 hours from high and not a cloud in the sky. First cast was the flatfish, second cast was a slot 17" red. There was maybe a ten minute break in the action when a small bull came along and blasted my MM in about 6 inches of water. He was right above the slot at 24 inches. It slowed down after that, and I only put two smaller but keeper trout in the boat over the last hour. I was on the water by 3pm and back at the marina by 5:30. Sorry the pics are a little blurry. It was good to see the water seems to be getting back to normal in the Ashley.

On falling tide I always try to fish the mouths of the feeder creeks
as i’ve found the fish are usually following the water, especially the small c

Great catches and awesome report.

Grand Slam…What!!! Do you mean at Denny’s! Man do I love pancakes!

Thanks fellas. And Gail, I’m well aware of what to do(thanks to you guys mostly) and have had little issues catching trout on falling tide, but reds have been much more allusive for me. Before I bought the boat, most of my fishing was in the surf or freshwater lakes. I’ll compete with the best of em when it comes to largemouth fishing in lakes but I’m still on the redfish river learning curve.
