Got up bright and early and hit the pier on DI around 6:00am. Started off slow. My buddy pulled up a small summer flounder around 7:00. I hooked a small croaker, a dreaded Oyster toadfish, a puffer, small BSB. At high tide I got a nice hit. Saw the ladyfish jump out of the water a few times and headed for the pilings. Managed to keep it out of the jungle and bring it up. First one of these I’ve ever caught and it was alot of fun to fight. They may not be big but they have alot of fight in them. Finished the day with a large croaker and headed home around 11:00am to spend the day with the family. Beautiful morning on the water and a nice variety of fish to keep it interesting. All released.
Haha sweet, ladyfish are great, poor man’s tarpon. If you get into em loosen your drag on your 4000 or throw out your light tackle like a 2000 or 3000! That’s fun
I’m a high class redneck.
Fishing is a delusion entirely surrounded by liars in pfgs and buffs.
The lightweight rod and small baitcaster reel made it even more fun. First time I broke out that rig in 10 years and I’ll be using it everytime I fish the rivers from now on. As “Turtle-Man” would say…“Live action”.
nice! if you don’t mind sharing, what rig were you using? I fish the DI pier a lot, but I usually don’t fish off the end like that because of how fast the current is.
It was high tide so the current wasn’t an issue. I was using a simple carolina rig with a 2 oz weight and a #1 circle hook. If you fish the end of the pier you’ll have the best luck on a slack tide. The longer the cast the better. The key is to cast long enough to get to the drop. There must be a live ledge or a hole there because I’ve pulled some sizable whiting, trout etc. out of there before. The best thing about that pier is you get a variety of different species.
